Quiet Book page 10…

Cars with wheels.  Joshua loves to touch buttons, so I put buttons on the cars.  I was originally thinking he could just turn the wheels, but I think they would have to be much bigger for that not to be awkward.  So instead he can just play with the buttons and when he is older the wheels can button on and off.

Quiet Book page 9…

I Scream, you scream, we all scream for icecream!  These scoops of icecream don’t have anything to attach them, they just work flannel board style.  The background is flannel and the pieces are felt.  I made two icecream cones so you can create an icecream cone for you and for a friend.

and when you are done, the scoops store in the center pocket.

Quiet Book page 8

The barn.  I saw this one on quite a few blogs and loved it.  They all had a top window that was just fake, but I wanted to use it as another pocket for the animals.  The animals are little finger puppets. ( I made them skinny for kid fingers and so they only work on my pinky)

Gone Fishing.  The fish snap on and off, and you can “catch“ them and put them in the net.

Hidden numbers.  I bought tons of fun buttons when the Roberts by us was closing and this was the perfect way to use some of them.  You count the number of buttons and then look under the flap…


I’m not sure I like how the number stitching turned out so I will probably redo that, but it’s done for now.

Quietbook Page 5

I’ve finished all the pages of the quietbook (for now)  I have a long list of pages I want to make but the book was already too fat as it is so subsequent pages will just have to be part of another book.  I was planning to bind the pages together like the other fabric books I’ve made but one of the blogs I read (sorry I can’t remember which one) said they liked to bind it with metal clips so you can  take it apart and pass pages down the pew to the different children.  We only have one child, but it still seems like a good idea. 

Instead of revealing the book all at once, I am going to post one page each day for the next few days (then I don’t have to dream up new posts for a bit)

So here is page 5.  Simple but fun shape match.  It’s essentially the same thing as his name but with shapes that velcro on and off.

I cut out 3 of each shape, one to sew on to the fabric with the fuzzy side of the velco.  I sewed the hook side of the velcro to another one, and then sewed the third one to it so you couldn’t see the velcro stitching from the top.

My little Monster…

This week I made Joshua a cute little cuddly monster

At first I didn’t like how the arms turned out, too long and gangly, but then I realized they are the perfect length to play peek-a-boo.  The horns and arms also give Joshua a place to hang on to when he’s dragging it around.

Then I remembered this blog contest I was going to enter at I Am Momma Hear Me Roar. 

So I took this turtle neck shirt, which it’s too warm to wear, and changed it to a t-shirt for the summer.

 

I took the fleece scraps left from the monster to make a “J” for Joshua.  I trimmed the back seams to make it lie as flat as possible.

 

Then I used some felt to make the face and create some monster embellishments. 

Voila! Monsters for my monster!

New Toys

We found some new toys for Joshua and we are having a lot of fun with them.  Doesn’t he just look like the cutest little pianist?


Here we are at his friend’s house playing in the ball pit.

When my brother Theron was little we took a picture of him with his shirt full of tennis balls, so I took this picture just for him.  My little Muscle Man!

It was hilarious watching him crawl, like a little baby ape.

This boy just makes me smile. :)

Adventures of Joshua…

Now that he’s mobile, he’s climbing and exploring the world around him.  I love this picture of him biting the edge of the table.

He pulled these bins off the shelves and then used them to stand on so he could reach the globe.

He still loves books!

Page 4

Color match.  I found this one in a book from the library and I absolutely loved it.  Each hand is sewn to a ribbon with an object of the same color and you have to match it with the color of the pocket. 

Quiet Book pages 1, 2 and 3

The first page I made was Joshua’s name.  Each letter is made of 2 layers of felt with velcro on the back, which attaches to the felt letters sewn on the page.

The second page is the zipper piggy bank. There are 10 coins to go in the bank, and a zipper to get the coins back out.  He can practice using a zipper and count coins on this page. I made 10 coins so we can use it to talk about tithing.

The third page is button flowers.  Each flower is cut out of fleece.  The stems are made of ribbon, and the leaves are pieces of fleece.  Each of the flowers has a slit so they can button on and off.

Something pink and frilly…

It has been so much fun making clothes for Joshua but I needed a break from boy clothes and wanted to make something pink and frilly.  I got some cute patterns for my birthday that have both boy and girl clothes so I decided to make this a pink dress for Brooklyn.

Then I decided it would be fun to make matching dresses for Madison, Brooklyn and their baby sister.

I love the little heart buttons I found for them.  I had to make up a pattern for the littlest one, so we’ll have to see when she gets here whether it fits or not.  My next project is a quiet book for Joshua so stay tuned for updates…

Finishing touches…

We’ve been meaning to add a shelf to Joshua’s room for a long time, and yesterday we finally got it done.

In celebration of getting things done, the plant in his room even decided to bloom.  Here is a view of the other side of the room, with all the pictures hung.

And what did Joshua do while we were working on his room?  He worked at cruising around the furniture, He really is good at getting around these days.

Sometimes he doesn’t seem like a baby anymore, he’s growing so fast.  Here is one last picture that just makes me laugh!
