Pillows, shoes and taggy animals…

With the warmer weather we had to take the heavy comforter off of our bed and replaced it with the quilt my mom and sisters made us for our wedding, which created a need for some new pillows.  I decided to make covers for the pillows so I wouldn’t have to store them.  So I changed this…. to this… (and next fall, I’ll just take off the covers and have my old pillows back again)

I have been having a lot of fun making little baby shoes, I’ve decided they could be great baby gifts.

HPIM1751

I added some non-skid shelf liner to the bottom.of some of the pairs to give them some traction.

HPIM1753

I think this is my favorite pair of shoes, because of the yellow ducky buttons on the tops.

I also found a cute pattern for taggy animals so I made these for a baby shower gift,(sorry they are blurry but I already gave them away so I can’t take a new picture)

Sing us a song, you're the piano man…

Joshua loves pianos!  Today he got ahead of me and managed to do a little piano solo for the young women of the ward, and tonight he put on a pretty nice concert for us.  Here are some pictures of Joshua and his love of pianos.

Baby Apron…

Yesterday Liz said I should make a little apron for Joshua since at grandma’s house they make great bibs.  I thought that was a great idea, (I always forget a bib when we are out and about).  I made it out of my old carseat cover because I plan to remake it anyway.

Serving Plate

I saw this super cute idea on one of my favorite crafty blogs (I Am Momma Hear Me Roar).  She took plates and candlestick holders to create her own tiered serving plate. I didn’t want to glue them permanently because then I’d have to store it somewhere and so I came up with this crazy idea to glue it on with Corn Syrup!  (It’s one of the stickiest things I could think of.)  It worked great!  I put the corn syrup around the rim of the candlestick holder and then put the plate on.  Then I took the plate off and let both surfaces dry a bit till it was nice and tacky… put them back together and viola!

The best part is, because it’s attached with syrup, a little hot water is all I need to take it back apart.

Snuggly Friends

I made a cute snuggly monster for Joshua a few weeks ago, and have since then made a few more cuddly friends.

HPIM1707

I tried to make the horns curved on the first (orange) one but when I stuffed them they went straight.  This time I made them really curved and it worked well.

I made this for a friend who is having a baby this summer and decorating with owls.

HPIM1645 I think making stuffed animals is fun and there will probably be more in the future

P.S. Thanks Kelli for emailing me the pattern for these shoes, I made another pair and now Joshua is sporting some pretty cute yellow shoes.  These definitely turned out better than my first attempt.

New Shoes

Andrew’s cousin Kelli made us these cute shoes last year, and I love them.  I decided I wanted some more like them and used them to make a pattern.  There is an elastic that goes around the ankle, and I should have attatched it a little lower on the front, but other than that they turned out pretty well.  They are a bit bigger than I thought (I over compensated for seam allowances) so I’ll just have to hold on to them for a bit.

I didn’t have quite enough corduroy so they bottoms are made from a scrap of upholstery and I used some cotton scraps to line the inside.

Quiet Book page 12… The last page (for now)

A road to drive matchbox cars on.  I made the center line on the road with a ribbon weaving in and out so there were less parts to potentially come off and be eaten.  The blue and red house is supposed to look like our house, and the side is open so you can “park” your car right inside.  I may add some more trees and houses later.

April Fool’s

Happy April Fool’s Day!

I have decided the only reason to buy toys for a 9 month old is for the parents, Joshua could have fun with anything around him.  Here is what he entertained himself with yesterday.

Counting beads.  Each string has the number of beads as the number above it.  You can slide the beads up and down as you practice counting.
